Hydration, definition, symmetry, or volume?
Lip filler is not one look. A plan may soften fine vertical lines, define the border or cupid’s bow, restore volume lost with age, improve asymmetry, or add conservative fullness. Product, amount, and placement depend on your anatomy and desired change.
A measured approach
More filler is not automatically a better result.
We account for projection, tooth show, facial proportions, and how your lips move. Some patients are best served by a staged plan, a lip flip, another treatment, or no filler at all.

Lip filler is a medical procedure and an aesthetic decision measured in millimeters. Dr. Karla Pivik brings board-certified dermatology training, more than a decade of cosmetic-injection experience, and whole-face judgment to product selection, placement, proportion, follow-up, and complication readiness.
Training is not interchangeable: a license or course may permit someone to perform an injection. It is not the same education as medical school, dermatology residency, specialty board examinations, and years caring for skin and facial anatomy. The FDA also warns that accidental injection into a blood vessel can cause serious complications, including tissue injury, vision abnormalities, blindness, or stroke.
- Expect informed consent. Review common effects, rare risks, alternatives, and warning signs.
- Discuss cold-sore history. Lip injections can reactivate oral herpes in susceptible patients.
- Do not stop prescribed medication on your own. Ask the prescribing clinician before changing medicines or supplements.
- Plan for swelling. Avoid scheduling immediately before a major event.

Lip flip
Uses a small amount of neuromodulator to relax the upper-lip muscle so more of the lip may show; it does not add filler volume.

What lip filler recovery can look like
This is a general timeline—not a promise. Swelling and bruising vary by person, product, amount, and injection technique.
First 24 hours
Swelling, tenderness, firmness, and small injection marks are common. Follow the aftercare plan you receive rather than massaging or manipulating the lips on your own.
Days 2–3
Swelling may still be noticeable and can look uneven as it changes. Bruising may become more visible before it fades.
Days 4–7
Most early swelling and tenderness continue to improve. The lips begin to look and feel more settled, although they are not at the final result yet.
Around 2 weeks
The refined result is easier to assess. This is generally a more useful point for evaluating symmetry and whether follow-up is appropriate.

How much lip filler will I need?
Many natural-looking plans begin conservatively, but there is no universal syringe amount. Your anatomy, existing volume, symmetry, product choice, and goal determine the plan. We explain the amount and total cost before treatment.
How long does lip filler swelling last?
Swelling is usually most noticeable during the first few days and can take about one to two weeks to fully settle. Bruising and tenderness are also possible. Contact the practice promptly for severe pain, unusual color change, or vision symptoms.
How long does lip filler last?
Longevity varies by product, metabolism, movement, and treatment plan. Lip filler often needs refreshing sooner than less mobile areas of the face. Individual results vary.
What is the difference between a lip flip and lip filler?
A lip flip uses a small amount of neuromodulator to relax the upper-lip muscle so more of the lip may show. Filler adds structure, hydration, definition, or volume. They solve different problems and may be used separately or together.
Can hyaluronic-acid lip filler be dissolved?
Hyaluronic-acid fillers can be adjusted or dissolved with hyaluronidase when clinically appropriate. Not every injectable product is reversible, which is why product selection and informed consent matter.
